Air Travel May Be Dangerous for People with Food Allergies, Experts Say
Airlines Promised Allergen-Free Zones on Flights, but 17% Were Not Provided
Going on holiday is always a chaotic time, but it can be especially stressful for those with food allergies.
A new study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology reveals that airlines often ignore requests concerning the health of people with food allergies during flights.
Many people with food allergies have reported that airlines promise to take steps to protect their health, but they fail to follow through.
The report states that over 20% of promises related to food allergies on various flights were not kept.
Furthermore, airlines promised allergen-free zones on 17% of flights, but these were not provided, and 23% of patients were promised allergen-free meal options that were not given.
Study co-author Leanne Mandelbaum said, "We are not asking for the moon and stars, we just want proper and safe travel. A safe environment should be provided for people with food allergies before they board the flight."
