Algae-Based Cooking Oil: Is It Healthier Than Olive Oil?

Algae-Based Cooking Oil: Is It Healthier Than Olive Oil?

When you think of health, algae might not be the first thing that comes to mind. However, thanks to a new innovation, algae is becoming popular as a healthy food option, especially in the form of algae-based cooking oil.

Algae cooking oil is gaining popularity among health influencers. It was developed by a company called Algae Cooking Club, which was launched last year. The company collaborates with world-renowned chef Daniel Humm, who owns the Eleven Madison Park restaurant in New York City, to create various products.

The company promotes algae cooking oil as an environmentally better choice, which, compared to olive oil, avocado oil, or other plant-based oils, is healthier for cooking at higher temperatures.

While there isn't yet extensive scientific research to support the health benefits or risks of algae cooking oil, health experts acknowledge its potential. Dr. Ann Marie Chessen, Director of Fellowship at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine in Arizona, mentions that she tries to avoid seed oils and, while she likes avocado oil, she believes its production isn't as environmentally friendly. In comparison, algae oil seems like a better option.

This cooking oil is made from microscopic plant-like organisms that grow rapidly in tanks. The oil is then extracted by applying pressure, much like olive oil is made.
